We are delighted to present for sale this 1963 Land Rover® Series 2a, finished in the Deep Bronze Green with colour coded wheels and Khaki Canvas.

Externally, as can be seen from the photos, there are a wealth of desirable items fitted to this truck- the matching bonnet mounted spare, wing top mounted mirrors, vintage number plates, early glass lenses for the lights, bonnet catches, rear bumperettes, recent canvas & NATO hitch to name a just a few. We want to let the photos speak for themselves here – and we think this is a really good looking Series 2a – especially when out and about.

The interior houses two front standard type seats, with the battery situated in the middle position – twin wiper motors are fitted, which was an optional extra at the time, alongside a set of deluxe matting to the footwells. It is great to see so many original features still fitted such as the flyscreens to prevent bugs from coming into the cabin when the vents are open, alongside the “Banjo” steering wheel with central press horn and indicator stalk on the column. In order to afford room for the driver, the 4WD and transfer levers remain in the RHS footwell as if a RHD. Rear benches afford seating for six occupants including the driver, with a load mat to the floor area for protecting against scratches.

The big appeal with this Series 2a is not only the fact it is a LHD vehicle, but also the fact that it is not a “CKD” knock down kit Santana which were built abroad – this one was built by Land Rover® LTD at Solihull, Warwickshire in May 1963 – and a dated letter from the British Motor Heritage Trust from 1997 included in the paperwork confirms this. This means it doesn’t have any of the later Santana engineered dials and equipment which is often disliked.. eventually the Santana versions differed so much from the Series 3s of the time, Land Rover® pulled Santana’s license to build them. This particular car is fully USA exportable being over 25 years old, of original type and having all paperwork matching the vehicle. This would also be ideal for any British citizen who wants to use the vehicle abroad or keep it at a holiday home… due to the fact it can be kept on UK plates whilst over there, completing the tax and MOT declarations online at no cost – avoiding European re-registration.

Out on the road, this Series 2a really gives a great account of the period drive with Weber Carburettor for more power over standard and oversized tyres for a more relaxed cruising experience when at speed. The Series 2a gearbox is well known to be the strongest and most unburstable unit. It is good to note that this Series 2 has a great chassis with very minimal welding, – and with six seats, the whole family can come along on days out to the beach, the pub, or the continent!

In summary, if you are looking for a LHD Series 2a for the summer, then this could be for you. These variants are super rare in any condition, let alone a condition such as this – and with the added bonus of MOT & Tax Exemption, Classic Insurance and the ability to either export abroad/keep on British plates – this Land Rover® is just about “all things to all men!”.
