We are delighted to present for sale this remarkable Lightweight, which we previously sold a number of years ago.

As can be seen by the photographs, the general presentation of this vehicle could be regarded as exceptional, not only in terms of solidity and originality, but also in terms of specification. As a “B” registration, this would’ve been one of the last Lightweights produced, and perhaps this is why it was retained in the forces until 2001. It is highly likely that the vehicle spent its life in undercover storage and was probably very sparingly used as was quite common with Lightweights. Following release, this Lightweight was first MOT’d for road use in 2006, where the mileage was shown to be 2157KM, which is approximately 1340 miles. Online mileage records then exist, through previous MOTs up to present day demonstrating that the current mileage of 5429km (or 3373 miles) is actually correct. Perhaps this is why the vehicle survives in such an original and yet outstanding condition.

Externally, this Lightweight has just about every feature one might hope to see on a top end Lightweight- bonnet mounted spare, 750 chevron tyres, FFR Canvas, Whip Aerials with ATU’s on Wings, Decals, Pioneer Tools, Front and Rear Bumperettes, Front and Rear Nato Hitches, Front and Rear Lifting Eyes, Correct Military Screw Lenses and Lighting all round etc etc etc.

The interior is also presented in the same fashion, with two front seats with battery middle box and mats to the footwells. It is great to see features such as the military flyscreens, all plastic trim, heater with front demist, hand throttle and gun clips survive. A previous owner has taken the wise move to fit Rocky Mountain Door Tops, to prevent future corrosion. There is also a seat belt bar with inertia reel belts, and the radio rack for that authentic finish. The rear currently houses some radio kit as may have been fitted during military service – there is a radio table and a mobile radio backpack which is both rare and valuable. The radio operators jump-seat is still fitted which is so unusual to see these days. Of course, this kit can be removed if required and some bench seats can be fitted in replacement to give seating for six occupants, should this be required.

Out on the road, as one would expect from an ultra-low mileage vehicle, this lightweight drives as well as it would’ve done when leaving the factory – in fact, with the benefit of uprated parabolic springs w/pro comp shocks for a smoother ride and the fitment of vented disc brakes at the front to aid stopping, it is most probably a superior experience. Added to that, the slightly larger circumference tyres give a more relaxed cruise and longer gearing ratios.

In summary, if you are looking for a Lightweight of the best quality available, with incredibly low miles, then this is worth a look. It would be ideal to just use and enjoy or to take to military shows or even would serve as a museum piece. With the increasing rarity of good Lightweight Land Rovers®, we suspect this may be the last opportunity to present such a vehicle for sale and we would be quite happy to retain it as an investment piece for the future.
