For sale, Land Rover® Series 3 109 Pickup in Drab Olive (1983 – released 2000)
Will be supplied with 12 months MOT. 2286cc petrol.
This handsome Series 3 was manufactured in 1983, and according to the Heritage Certificate (military number 61 KB 26) was despatched to the Central Army Vehicle Depot on 22.9.1983. It remained in the forces right until 2000, when it was released onto a “Q” registration, as many were at that time – it was generally found easier to Q plate them than go to the trouble of identifying the build date! (This was 10th September 1983). It would therefore be possible, if preferred, to re-register the vehicle onto a “Y” registration, although the Q designation is part of the military history in our eyes.
Interestingly, the first MOT recorded six years after release showed 14,944 miles – which is quite possibly correct, as in military use, it was not uncommon for vehicles to be little, or unused during their time serving…….so light use for the first six years release would make this correct…..after all, who would cover 100,000 miles in six years in a leaf sprung Land Rover®?!! The following MOTs finish with a mileage of just over 25,000 miles today!
This sheltered life in the forces, and low miles in civilian hands probably explains the superb, unwelded chassis….as solid as the day it was made. The 2286cc engine sounds lovely and it drives just as it should. There are various military touches, including the convoy light switch, lifting eyes, bonnet mounted spare etc etc. The correct military 750 tyres are fitted to matching rims. As one can see, the general presentation of the truck is excellent, with a new rear pickup body having been presumably fitted later. It is an enormous space, capable of transporting large loads safely.
In summary, this is a rare, smart, useful ex military land rover, low mileage and in rock solid condition – it would be ideal for the DIYer, or a business with traditional values which needs their transport to make a statement….it would even be super useful for the privateer, for moving logs, rubble, garden waste or whatever, and with three front seats, there’s still room for the partner plus one. We think this smart vehicle represents superb value for money.
