This is a particularly smart 86″ Series 1, having had just two former keepers! The last owner had owned it for 30 years, and was incredibly attached to it, and described it as “much loved.”
Because of the low number of owners, its history has been retained – we know it started life as a government vehicle (Home Office, Field Cable Party, Dorset Division). It was subsequently sent to auction on release, and purchased by a farmer in Oxfordshire, to pull his daughter’s horsebox……it was then purchased three years later by the current registered keeper, Mark, from Swindon. Mark refrained from restoring her, preferring, in his words, to retain the originality…..so with the exception of the Series 3 engine (we even know that it came out of a 1976 military LWB!) it is standard – the original rear cross member (chassis is in great order), both axles (both been rebuilt), original untouched gearbox…etc etc.
As can be seen, this 86″ is nice and straight. She has lovely seats and interior, and a new canvas, which really completes her. Her tyres are all good, and a matching set to boot.
We have a lot of information about her mechanicals, which documents when everything was done, but perhaps all the new keeper needs to know is that she’s been loved and well cared for for the last 30 years!
The registration is transferable, but we believe that vehicles should retain their plates, whatever they are worth.
To summarise, this is a very pretty old 86″ Land Rover®, and having had such a good home for the past 30 years, it deserves a good home for the next few decades!
