For sale, Land Rover® Series 3 in Marine Blue (1977).
We are delighted to present for sale this 1977 Series 3 Land Rover®, which has been owned locally to our premises for the last few years. Unfortunately, due to a regretful changing of circumstances (a new job requiring a move abroad!), we are now able to offer it for sale. This particular example was restored during the pandemic in 2020, back onto its original chassis for authenticity, and benefits from a plethora of reconditioned and replacement parts fitted during the build.
Externally, as the photos show, the bodywork is in good order and benefits from a sprayed finish – the vehicle sits on a set of 750 chevron tyres, with a matching bonnet mounted spare, and enjoys lots of other period features… from the vintage number plates, to the rear grab handles, colour coded lamp surrounds, renewed galvanised body cappings – etc. There have been some modern additions – the larger defender style mirrors for superior visibility, alongside the sliding defender-type rear side windows to give a station wagon feel and look.
On the inside, there are three recent front deluxe seats, with deluxe matting fitted to the footwells – an Evander Wood steering wheel has been fitted for that premium feel, and the bulkhead has a deluxe trim cover applied in front of the gearstick, to aid sound deadening. The rear is fitted with twin bench seats, giving seating for seven people including the driver. The rear windows transform the experience – no matter where you sit, this has an “optimistic” light and airy feel as you drive along… and it makes blind spot checks and vision of blind spots whilst driving far easier – they slide too for air flow, which is welcomed in warmer weather. This means the whole family can come on your next excursion, no matter where you plan to go, in (relative!) comfort.
Out on the road is where this Series III shines, though – it is a pleasing period drive, aided by the larger tyres for improved gearing and a more relaxed cruise, and free wheeling hubs to reduce axle wear and improve fuel economy by preventing the front prop shaft from turning when not required. We can always feel behind the wheel when a vehicle has received significant attention, and this truck is no exception – it is a joy and a very undramatic experience, which is exactly what we like to see.
The previous keeper drove this vehicle into us, living 20 miles from the premises, which includes the infamous Sutton Bank – one of the steepest roads in the UK, without any dramas whatsoever. He was gutted to be parting with it, and plans to reunite himself with a Series Land Rover® when he returns to the UK in a few years time. Whilst we thoroughly test drive and inspect every vehicle prior to sale, it is always nice to have a local rapport and know a vehicle which has given good service – we have previously admired it parked outside The Star Inn at Harome – and according to the previous keeper, he sold it to us as we once left a card under his windscreen wiper whilst it was parked outside!
In summary then, if you are looking for a Series Land Rover® which can carry the whole family, benefits from MOT & Tax exemption and also looks the part, then this is well worth considering – it has been enjoying retirement in the Howardian Hills of North Yorkshire, but she is ready to work or play in another area of the UK at a moments notice!
