Here we have for sale a very low mileage, outstanding condition, high specification P38 Range Rover, fitted with the economical and reliable BMW 6 cylinder turbo diesel engine – fully loaded in top “HSE” spec (the highest available at that time, pre-Vogue models) – and with low mileage and just six former keepers from new, presented here in perhaps the better colour combination for a P38 – Silver with Nero Leather Interior. This particular P38 also benefits from the avoiding the expensive and recently revised road tax rules of the following model year… meaning you can avoid an eye watering road tax bill – this is less than £350 a year, as opposed to £700 + of later examples.

Externally, as the photos show, this P38 survives in unusually good order – it is not so hard to find a P38, but the challenge is to find an example that manages to survive in a condition like this. One must assume that rather than being a workhorse, that this vehicle has been enjoyed and loved and used sparingly throughout its life. The bodywork looks as good in the flesh as it does in the photographs, and coupled with the silver alloys and other well presented details, we think it is one very handsome Classic Range Rover. The vehicle also benefits from a tow bar and electrics should you wish to make it work when it is not being pampered.

The interior has also enjoyed an existence of pampering that reflects the external appearance – the leather seats are all “good” and in nice condition, and all the various bits and bobs work as they should. A later and more modern Pioneer Head Unit has been fitted to give bluetooth capability, using the existing speaker arrangement, which gives a very pleasing and current sound – through which you can play your latest Spotify playlist, or play your Sat Nav instructions! It comes fully loaded with HSE spec which we’ve summarised in the top paragraph, so it is lovely to see benefits such as Dual Zone automatic air conditioning on a vehicle of 26 years old…. it really is a classic you can use and enjoy in a very modern way… and it has a level of spec one might struggle to replicate even on a modern car.

This well-loved P38 also benefits from enhanced coil sprung suspension – this eradicates all concerns over the troublesome air suspension system, and guarantees comfortable and reliable handling. Out on the road, the reliable BMW diesel engine, mated to the smooth automatic gearbox, makes for a pleasing and trouble-free driving experience. Whilst some people may prefer the larger petrol engined V8 examples, there is a growing band of followers who particularly want the reliability and the fuel economy that is associated with an engine produced by BMW. These units are robust, economical and have longevity on their side – they seem to run on and on, without significant issue…. and this example is no different… it accelerates keenly from the torque-y engine, and the gear change shifts smoothly and quickly up to the legal speed limit.
