We are delighted to present for sale what is quite simply one of the best Land Rover® Defender 90s we have seen for many years – subjected to a full rebuild in 2021 onto a galvanised chassis, with just about every desirable extra, low previous keepers and mileage – this Defender is a seriously attractive proposition… read on below!

Externally, as the photos show, this Land Rover® Defender is finished in XS Stornoway Grey Metallic – with Gloss Black Roof piece, silver alloy wheels, galvanised front and rear bumpers and black detailing. We have done all we can to ensure that the photographs supplied here do the vehicle justice – from the new galvanised front bumper with end caps, to the rear SwingAway wheel carrier, to the rear mud flaps, tow pack to allow towing, safari roof with alpine lights and sliding side windows, rear galvanised bumperettes, alloy wheels with Adventuro tyres – the list really does go on, and on, and on. This leads to a finished product which looks great at every angle – whether parked, or out and about – no matter whether in an urban setting, or a farmers field! We struggle to recall a better looking Defender 90 that we’ve had at HQ for some time.

On the inside, there are two front deluxe high back outer seats, with head rests, and a central cubby box, which includes cup holders – handy for the drive through, and the cubby box itself is useful for keeping items stowed out of sight. The entire interior benefits from a deluxe carpeting set – with a full headliner, including working sun roof – even the interior lighting is triggered in the front and rear when the doors are open and closed… whilst this may not sound radical to the prospective owner – this is something we almost never see. In the rear, there are four individual tip up seats, which can be folded away if required to reveal the entire load space, which has been fitted with an OEM rubber mat to protect against scratches and damage. The safari roof with alpine lights and sliding side windows mean that six fully grown adults can travel in this Defender in comfort, with plenty of light and air – it also makes driving a breeze thanks to the enhanced visibility. A stereo and speakers has been fitted, with includes the ability to charge a phone, including bluetooth music and calls – speakers are fitted in the front and the back – giving the best possible sound, and meaning all can enjoy some summer motoring with the windows and sun roof open, and the tunes on. The inside is quite simply a lovely place to sit, even down to the proper hand rails above the rear door for easy entry and exit.

As mentioned previously – this Defender 90 has been subjected to a full rebuild in 2021, with many of the bills supplied, including the chassis… this means there are no worries about corrosion or welding underneath. There has only been 4 keepers since new, and the vehicle is supplied with original handbooks and service records, which is a great bonus. It has only covered 79,289 miles from new – that is only 2477 miles a year. This vehicle is very much the “thinking mans choice” – if you look around at the market today, the asking price of this vehicle is similar to a tired (later) TD5 or TDCI Defender – which will be hiding electrical gremlins, corrosion, ugly welds, higher mileages, tired trim pieces – etc etc. By purchasing the latter, you are signing up to be a slave to your dealer, needing a computer for every repair and a future rebuild “down the line” – not the case with this Defender we’re selling – the hard work has already been done – it will stand the test of time far better than its later compatriots – and it’ll be MOT and Tax exempt in 2034 as well. It even costs less than half a TD5 or TDCI to tax every year…. current road tax rates on later Defenders (thanks to the updated rules) can be £800 per year – this is less than £400.

We really could wax on all day about the reasons one should buy this Defender over (just about) every other variant – but we’re sure a discerning future keeper can see the positives. This is normally the part of an advert where we take a “deep sigh” and then tell you about the penalties or pitfalls that, as a new keeper, you’ll need to live with to get the benefits of ownership. That isn’t the case here – and forgive any flowery superlatives below, which we always try to avoid.

It begins with the engine – a low mileage, 300TDI – well known as the best Land Rover® Defender engine ever produced – with plenty of power, but a fully mechanical engine – no onboard computer (OBD) and no ECU (electronic control units). There is nothing under the bonnet of this vehicle which you cannot work out with an £11 Haynes Manual off Amazon, and nothing which cannot be fixed with a basic tool kit. This means yearly maintenance can either be done at a low cost by just about any garage, or yourself at home, should you fancy it. This is only the first benefit – the next is even bigger – and that is the driving experience. Power Steering and disc brakes, alongside coil springs and a five speed gearbox, mean this drives like any other modern Defender you’d get in – no matter your gender, your age, your weight, your height – you can get (reasonably!) comfortable behind the wheel. The test drive of this vehicle was carried out by our 25 year old bodyshop head, Aimee – she is 5 foot 4, 8 stone, and adored driving it… she has found some of the earlier, normally aspirated, non-power steering vehicles a little tricky – not the case with this… she’d happily use it every day if given the chance. Then you’ve got the interior mod cons – the heated rear screen for icy conditions, the heater, the ability to take calls, listen to music on a stereo which actually can produce a good sound – etc etc. Add into all of that the rebuild – and it drives about as well as a Defender 90 ever really can – unless you are going to chuck a six figure sum at it!

As you can probably tell – we are singing the praises of this Defender 90 quite hard – and the reason being is just the fact that all these benefits are contained within one “galvanised chassis package” – we do often get calls from potential customers wanting something like this – and we often have to tell them all the same thing – finding all these items in one vehicle is a rare find, if it even existed! Clearly, it does here – and if you wanted to rebuild and replicate this vehicle today, you’d be in for well above 100% higher than the asking price, due to the little touches everywhere you look, and the sheer amount of added extras. If you miss this truck, we can’t realistically replicate it (outside of the cosmetics) because finding rebuilt Defenders like this is just so rare to see. We highly doubt it’ll last – so if you are reading this and it is still for sale – we’d actively encourage getting in touch ASAP.
