For sale, Land Rover® Defender 90 Ragtop in Arles Blue (1993).
We are delighted to present for sale this 1993 Land Rover® Defender 90, finished in Arles Blue with Black Detailing – this particular example has been rebuilt onto a galvanised chassis in times past with an absolutely outrageous specification – as the top paragraph of this advert outlines. The brief @ HQ with this truck was to create a fun, ragtop family wagon which stands out from the crowd.
Externally – the photos do the vast majority of the heavy lifting – presented in both soft top fitted and removed. There are loads of cool details everywhere you look – from the wolf style wheels and tyres, to the new canvas, the side step rails, the black vent details and front bumper, the LED lights, the adventure grill – it just looks mega. There are helpful touches too – a height adjustable tow bar and electrics to allow towing – and a stanced set up for better ground clearance. and a better ride no matter the surface. The team @ HQ were debating whether to give this one-off an “edition name” – but we’d rather leave that to the new keeper!
On the inside, there is a full deluxe interior – with a full sound deadening kit, door cards, deluxe outer high back seats, and a central cubby box. There are 12v and USB chargers for phones and tablets if needed. There is a full heavy-duty roll bar fitted to protect the occupants, and this affords front outer inertia seat belts, which is a great touch. It also means when that brand new canvas is removed, it looks mega and can be held onto if you want to stand up, or have a bike lashed to it with a bungee cord! The rear houses four individual tip up rear seats, which can be folded away to give the whole load space, or dropped down to afford seating for six people. The side windows in the canvas mean a light and airy feel akin to a station wagon, making travelling in the front or back a great laugh… it also improves safety as you can check your blindspot more easily.
Out on the road, this goes as well as it looks – power steering, disc brakes, coil springs, five speed gearbox, and TDI power means an absolute laugh – with that wheel and tyre set looking the business – and it’ll be very helpful if you do ever go off road, too. The galvanised chassis rebuild means a well sorted feel when driving along – it turns heads everywhere, and with the shades on, and the roof off, on a warm weekend – there really is no better place to be. The writer of this advert parked this up in Thirsk town centre to grab some chips (and an ice lolly) for the guys on account of the warm weather – and when returning to the vehicle, it was quite literally “dripping” with people! This is just one of those trucks which reminds you life is for living, and life is supposed to be a good laugh – far more fun than an austere new car, which beeps at you constantly and tries to drive you in to a parked car because you’ve gone within 1 meter of the central white line! Also – this Land Rover® is seriously quick – we suspect it has, during the rebuild, benefitted from a ported cylinder head and a few fuelling tweaks – you can really hammer along should the mood take you.
Also – if you are a taller driver and are normally inhibited from purchasing an earlier Defender 90 on account of interior space and legroom – this has an OEM bulkhead removal bar for an extra few inches….. and it may be the fact the writer is high on the adrenaline of this driving this mega truck – and pardon my joke – but every one will always tell you – a few inches makes all the difference!
In summary – if you are looking for a summer fun bus for the whole family, which won’t depreciate by 15k in a year like a brand new Range Rover, can take all the kids on a sunny day (unlike a 2 seater convertible!), and that turns heads, is a great laugh AND will stand the test of time – this has to be worth considering. We adore refurbishing trucks like this – in an ever changing and serious world, there just isn’t as much room for fun as anyone would like – and this truck takes that fun factor to the maximum!
