We are delighted to present for sale this “one off” G4 Challenge Defender 90 tribute – rebuilt onto a new galvanised chassis. As the photos show, this vehicle has been built up with an enviable spec list, giving it an incredible stance and presence.

The photos and the spec list tell the bulk of the story – but suffice to say, this vehicle has been lavished with care and attention without much regard for cost. The resulting vehicle is a bulletproof, station wagon style Defender 90, that is capable of carrying four adults in a forward facing configuration, which one would only normally find on a much later XS (post 2007) vehicle. We really love the way this vehicle has been built up, and feel that it invites the new owner on a variety of adventures…. whether that be to the shops with kids belted in the back, on an off-road green lane somewhere rural, or indeed a longer road trip with that handy roof rack filled with all the gear required for a longer trip. It really is a versatile vehicle.

The interior is a light and airy place to be, thanks to the alpine lights and correct sliding side windows. The vehicle also benefits from a bulkhead removal bar, which affords a seamless transition between the passengers in the rear and those in the front – a welcomed upgrade and something normally only seen on a premium XS model. Also fitted to the rear, instead of much less usable side facing seating, are two, fancy, folding, tip up, forward facing, PUMA style seats with integral diagonal seat belts. These fold and tilt out of the way when not in use, to create an uninterrupted load space, but more importantly, they serve as two “proper” forward facing seats that can be used by adults, or children, or for car seats due to the standard of the seat belt arrangement. The front seats are also XS half leather and heated too, and they are served by a security, locking cubby box which also enjoys a volt meter and additional electrical socketry. The dash has been upgraded in various ways too – there is a HiFi with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, housed in a bespoke pod. There is a general feel that things have been well considered and everything feels like it is “in the right place!”.

Out on the road, this rebuilt Defender 90 is a fantastic drive – the turbo diesel engine is an absolute peach and gets off the mark with more power than one might expect….. it is somewhat of a “pocket rocket” so for those looking for plenty of poke, this ticks the box. With it being a modern Defender 90, it drives as well as one would hope, and was delivered to us over a 3 hour journey by the previous keeper….. with absolutely no issues whatsoever.
