This is, in our opinion, a great little 90. It is fitted with the unburstable an easily maintained 2286cc Land Rover® petrol unit – nice and simple. The gearbox is five speed, giving a similar effect to an overdrive on an 88″ – and it’s also four wheel drive constantly. This gives the vehicle old school technology (cheap to run and easy to maintain), but as it’s a 90 it benefits from disc brakes and coil springs, making it much more of a daily driver than the earlier Series 3. On the inside there are two front seats with cubby box, and the rear is smartly lined in chequer plate. There’s also a roll cage fitted, giving added protection in event of a rollover. The canvas is also of “plastic” type, for longevity.

Externally, there are a full set of matching wheels and tyres, and the vehicle generally stands well and really looks the part.

The chassis and bulkhead are both in sound and solid order, particularly bearing in mind that this is the first year of 90 production, and it will be 30 years old next year (even though the styling has not changed in that time –  classic insurance is applicable too). We suspect it was probably rebuilt at some point, due to the current condition.

For those looking for a classic Land Rover®, particularly a soft top, but want to use it regularly, this would be ideal. It will be happy serving its next owner for many years to come – summer fun, winter use (knobbly tyres, constant four wheel drive and better heater), yet still capable of being a daily runner with rear load carrying (tumble driers, washing machines or trips to the tip!), and can be maintained “on your drive” very easily and cheaply (classic insurance, low tax bracket, low maintenance, zero depreciation), with no complex engines or mechanical components…..it has a lot going for it!
