For sale, Land Rover® Defender in Red (1995) *Esmerelda – River Cottage HQ*

This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of TV history….As you may know, we were involved in the restoration of The Gastrowagon, made famous in the early series of River Cottage, with TV chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall. This culminated in an invite to display the finished truck at River Cottage this summer. The Gastrowagon has now been sold to a private collector, but whilst we were at River Cottage HQ, we spotted Hugh’s own 90, that has been used fairly constantly for the past few years in the various TV series shot during that period, the most notable being the River Cottage Road Trip. During this series, Hugh rattled around the UK in search of gastronomic treats…..It’s great fun to watch these programs and spot Esmerelda! She has also been used by Hugh and family, and has more recently been used as the River Cottage hack ! When we saw Esmerelda, we instantly recognised her, and wanted her – and ultimately this happened. Our delivery truck visited River Cottage  to collect her, and she has spent recent weeks with us receiving our usual attention and scrutiny …..she is now ready for sale.

As you can imagine with a truck of this fame, there is a huge amount written and documented about her, but most importantly perhaps is the large list of works and improvement she has received over the past few years  as a high profile vehicle.

Works done to make Esmerelda better have included slotted and vented brake disc upgrades, suspension upgrades, new “Outlast” front seats, fancy “Exmoor Trim” rear folding hi back seats (safe and very expensive items), roll cage (again for safety), a stereo and speakers (front panel now missing unfortunately), winch bumper and winch, VEGETABLE OIL CONVERSION with heater and custom tank, so you can be an eco warrior like Hugh, plus lots of regular servicing and maintenance.

Esmerelda (named by the Land Rover® garage who worked on her) drives really well, and will come with a new MOT – we have carefully cleaned and Schultzed the chassis to preserve its integrity for the forthcoming years, so it looks great underneath.

This then is an opportunity to own not only a well prepared, presented and specified 90, but also a famous Land Rover® and watch your own truck on TV via the supplied DVD – as we did with The Gastrowagon!
