Austin Champ *Fully Restored* (XUT)

For sale, as a private sale from a military collection,  Austin Champ in Deep Bronze Green (1954)

This is a very reluctant sale, of one of our private vehicles from our collection. We are only selling due to a “clearing out of the toy box” to make way for new Vintage Land Rovers™ and other stuff!

This quite superb Champ was purchased several years ago from a gentleman who had owned it around 10 years. In that time he had fully rebuilt it, from the bottom up – so this truck looks every bit as clean and detailed underneath as on top – in fact so much so, that when its been for a run out, it is put up on the ramps to polish the underside too!

We have run this vehicle for several years without ANY breakdowns or issues, save for on one time the batteries were running flat, so a brand new matching pair have been fitted. It doesnt run flat either, which is helped by a battery cut off switch….so you can leave it long periods without worry. It’s tax and MOT exempt too, so no worries of having to jump through any hoops at regular intervals.

These Champs are fab vehicles – they have a five speed gearbox which puts the Series Land Rover® to shame, and brakes to match. The suspension is simply unbelievable, being all independent….again, a far cry from an old Land Rover ! Then you’ve got that Rolls Royce petrol engine……oh wow, it’s just lovely…..silent, other than a lovely exhaust note and the whoosh of a fan….very addictive. At this point you get the nasal “isn’t it thirsty on fuel?” I’m sure you know the answer to this, but who cares….it will still do 12 to 15 MPG…you’re not using it for a daily commute so who cares!

Owning a Champ is easy – it is dog reliable, fun to drive, and super easy to convert from wind in the hair, through to screen up , to full roof up when it rains – such a good design. We have driven this one all over the place, and it’s been superb. It’s covered around 30,000 miles.

As you can see, not only is this Champ fully restored everywhere you look, it also has all the knobs, bells and whistles you would expect from a premium example. There’s a dry firing, deactivated machine gun and mount included (easily removed should you need to) plus all the tools and cans and aerials etc.It also all works – dials, gauges etc. It is absolutely ready to show, use or store and we are selling this as a “turn the key” vehicle . Prices have steadily risen for these, and should continue to climb, making it a great way to invest and enjoy your money.

In summary, we believe that this is probably one of the nicest Champs out there….it’s not well known about due to having being in private hands rather than bouncing around auction sites, but it’s sure to create a storm wherever you drive it. Designed for post war use, and relegated to the margins by the Series 1 Land Rover®, they hold a fond place in the hearts of many – a true BRITISH JEEP in every sense of the word.
