Land Rover® Series 2a *Recently Rebuilt* (AAL)

For sale, on behalf of a customer, Land Rover® Series 2a in Deep Bronze Green (1963).

Petrol 2286cc. MOT until 29th January 2019 with no advisories - MOT exempt after this point. Tax Exempt. Recent Rebuild onto a replacement mild steel chassis from a professional outfit. Free Wheeling Hubs.

Here for sale we are delighted to present this newly rebuilt Series 2a on behalf of a previous customer. He has restored the vehicle over 3 years, in an attempt to keep his garage employees engaged in work. He tells us that the final bill for producing this vehicle will not cover the asking price.

On the outside, there are some pleasant period features, such as the round mirrors, bonnet mounted spare, correct vintage numberplates, mudflaps and steel wheels. Free Wheeling Hubs are fitted to limit wear to the front axle and increase fuel economy.

On the inside, the vehicle has deluxe front seating, with twin benches in the rear. The interior is fairly standard, but for the deluxe trim door cards and sound deadening to the roof of the vehicle.

Out on the road, the vehicle drives just as it should, giving a pleasant period driving experience. The petrol engine is especially smooth and quiet.

A full summary of the work completed in the build, in the words of the current owner, is below:

The vehicle was totally stripped down with everything including axles removed from the chassis. All new outriggers including fuel tank support brackets were replaced and then the chassis was spray painted with 1 coat of etching primer, 2 coats of normal primer then 4 coats of chassis black.

The engine was serviced with a new oil and filter, the block was fully detailed and refitted with new engine and gearbox mountings, new plugs, ignition coil and fuel lift pump. A new exhaust was fitted with new mounting straps. The gearbox was drained, new synchromesh springs fitted and all output seals were replaced and fitted with front and rear propshafts with all the joints replaced and the gear oil replaced in both the front and rear differential including the front hubs and transfer box.

New standard road springs were fitted to the front, the rear were new when the vehicle was bought and so they are in excellent condition - new shock absorbers were fitted to the rear axle, including new brake cylinders and master cylinder, new brake pipes including all flexi pipes and new wheel cylinders all around with new front brake shoes and brake drums. The clutch system was given a new master and slave cylinder, with new piping.

All lower body panels were paint stripped, with new panels fitted plus any previous repair filler ground off existing panels, repaired and then etch primered, 2 coats of primer were then done and finished with 2k Gloss Paint. The bulkhead was stripped, new 'A' pillars were fitted including the mounting brackets and footwells, then the bulkhead was primed and painted. New side, brake and indicator lights were fitted with new door seals and door cards to both doors plus a rear safari-type door. A new Galvanised front bumper was fitted along with four new Pirelli Radial tyres. The hard top was fitted with safari type side windows, with sound deadening fitted to the roof.

As can be seen from the above, many new parts were fitted within the build and full photographs of the rebuild are included within the history file.

In summary, if you are looking for a rebuilt, cheap to own and run Series 2a then this could be for you. With tax exemption, upcoming MOT exemption and classic insurance, it should prove easy to live with. With enough seats for the whole family, this vehicle is versatile and ideal for any situation, come rain or shine. The vehicle is priced very keenly in view of the level of works undertaken to the parts you cannot see on this vehicle.

Please note as this is a commission sale there is no warranty implied or given as the contract of sale is between you and the current owner.
