Land Rover® Lightweight *Galvanised Chassis* (NFS)

Sold

For sale, Land Rover® Lightweight in Drab Olive (1979).

12 months MOT will be supplied upon sale. Petrol 2286cc with Weber Carb. 12 Volt.

Released from forces in 1995 - with very low recorded miles...more info further in ad.

We are delighted to offer this superb lightweight for sale, having been fully rebuilt professionally in 2006 onto a new galvanised chassis at a documented cost of over £15,000. There is a very detailed and comprehensive folder of photos, receipts and information to support this - many new parts were used in that process of course, but there was also a reconditioning to be gearbox and head gasket.

As can be seen from the photos, this is a well presented and handsome lightweight, with everything one might expect, and no nasty additions. From front and rear bumperettes, to highly desirable Split rear tailgate with full pioneer tool set , this old girl has the lot - under arch tool box, mud flaps, tow bars, sankey hitches, knobbly tyres, bonnet mounted spare and rope! It's very well appointed....even the canvas is like new.

Internally the story continues with exceptionally rare twin tanks, both fitted, both working, with both fuel gauges, and changeover tap - seldom seen or expected today. The rear is unfitted just as it should be, but the front houses 3 recent seats, and a bench set could be added if so required. There's also a desirable seat belt mounting rail with inertia belts for safety and user comfort; all very nice. The dash is entirely standard and complete with fly screens, heater and plastic trim, correct steering wheel and fire extinguisher.

Out on the road , as one would naturally expect from a reworked and rebuilt lightweight, it drives really well. As it was only released from forces in 1995 with circa 25,000 miles on the clock, its no surprise that this is the case. The mileage has climbed very steadily to a heady 35,000 miles since then, which probably isn't far off correct. It's well known that during their life in the forces, that lightweights didn't work hard, and subsequently they fell into enthusiasts hands , who generally pampered them. As a little bonus this vehicle is not very far off being free from road tax , so in around 3 years time that will save £230 or so a year, and add further value.

In summary, this is, in our opinion, a well presented and rebuilt, low mileage, desirable 12v, twin tank truck with pioneer tools and all the toys. Added to this, the restoration history file, and galvanised chassis make it quite a rare thing nowadays.
