Series 1 Land Rover® (1949)

Category : Latest Land Rovers® For Sale

For sale, Land Rover® Series 1 80″ (1949)

MOT exempt, tax exempt.

This stunning “first generation, lights behind the grill” Land Rover® is in truly outstanding condition (we think the photos speak for themselves). The logbook shows declared manufactured 1948, but the enclosed heritage certificate shows a build date of 8th September 1949. It was first registered in 1983, and we are presuming it was outside the UK for this time, perhaps Isle of Mann, or somewhere similar that means when it comes to the UK it is a newly registered vehicle (we are only guessing this! It may have been used on a Scottish estate and never registered) . From then on it was in dry storage for ten years in Scotland, and we purchased it from the chap who acquired it at that point. It has had 3 former keepers since 1983, and the mileage shows 31,000 which is reputed to be correct.

We believe this to be a completely original and genuine vehicle, with all numbers being correct, and all fittings and fixtures to be correct. The radiator is date stamped 8 49. The 1.6 litre side valve engine looks very smart inside the tidy engine bay – and the chassis is just incredible – no welding, and painted in gloss green as shown in the photos. The mechanics have actually polished the axles and chassis, such is the condition underneath! The smart period canvas adds to the charm.

There is a good file of receipts and documentation which comes with the vehicle.

This series 1 drives beautifully, and the engine is nice and sweet.

All in all this is a rare early 80″ in stunning condition considering its 65 years !

For sale Land Rover® Series 2a in Deep Bronze Green (1962).

Will be supplied with 12 months MOT and tax exempt (not currently taxed)

This lovely Series 2a has  the excellent 2 1/4 petrol engine . This Series 2 drives incredibly well and will happily cruise at 55-60 miles per hour with ease. (New gearbox recently fitted too!) We suspect this vehicle may well be running higher ratio differentials, giving superior  ratios to allow for better and more relaxed cruising. In the front there are three deluxe seats and mats. The rear houses the spare wheel, mounted on the bulkhead, and a lockable storage box for tools etc. The Land Rover® is also fitted with tow bar and electrics.

This lovely old Series 2a is in quite original condition, still sporting its twin individual wiper motors and period dashboard etc. It also sports some military style features eg front military bumperettes and lifting eyes. The body work is in good, straight order and the paint finish is of a professionally sprayed type. It also benefits from a brand new soft top.

All in all this is a good looking, clean, straight Series 2a in very good driving order.

Bedford RLHZ Green Goddess *MOT & Tax Exempt* (1956)

Category : Latest Land Rovers® For Sale

For Sale, Bedford RLHZ Green Goddess (1956)

MOT and Tax Exempt.

Registered 1956, 3000 miles, 4.9 litre petrol engine. Fully documented service history.

Excellent condition both mechanically and bodywork wise. This vehicle has been stored inside since decommission so the woodwork is in excellent condition as is the roof felt. The vehicle benefits from a good set of tyres and is professionally painted in original AFS livery.

The Goddess has a FULL compliment of original fire fighting equipment. The main pump is fully operational and was tested earlier this year, the featherweight pump has also been run only recently. All low pressure hoses are operational. The equipment and tools include ladders, hoses, branches, suction hoses and strainers, stand pipes, hearth kit, axes, shovels, foam branch, ground monitor, hose ramps, chimney rods, stirrup pump etc.

Much of the equipment is crown stamped, including the brass bell which is an increasingly scarce item.

This vehicle has been regularly driven and has attended many historic vehicle events and also comes supplied with an information  board for use on such occasions. It’s just done a 100 mile journey with ease!

The Goddess is MOT and Tax Exempt and can be driven on a car licence (pre 1997).

We bought this vehicle from the chap who bought it from the release agent from service – so it’s had very few owners and we’ve met them all! We also know where you can source any spares needed should this be required (tyres etc)

These Green Goddesses are becoming increasingly rare, especially in this condition. Many went overseas, or have suffered from years of outdoor storage. This one has been dry stored all of its life, and is both original, pristine, and complete. Even the siren and lights work, which is great fun – they also make quite useful vehicles – there is enough room up front for loads of people, they are four wheel drive with low ratio, so they can get you out of a snowdrift or muddy patch – indeed they can be turned around on a patch of grass without worrying about getting stuck – or a gravel drive – where other vehicles would get stuck. It has awesome and functioning water moving facilities, which is simple to operate (we are supplying all the relevant manuals with it to show you how to operate the on board pump, and also the mobile engine/pump which can be lifted out and carried to where it needs to work – so you can actually pump twice as much water –  hundreds and hundreds of gallons per minute (more than a modern day unit). If you live in a flooding zone they are going to save your property, and as such, should only go up in value.

So go on, don’t rely on the fire brigade to help you next winter – get your own mobile pumping station, four wheel drive, low mileage,  classic vehicle – all the fun of owning a classic vehicle (with no road tax and low insurance and no MOT to worry about) whilst having a truly useful, appreciating asset!  You WONT find a better one!

Land Rover® Series 2 -*MOT & Tax Exempt -Soft Top*

Category : Latest Land Rovers® For Sale

For sale, Land Rover® Series 2 ragtop in Marine Blue (1959)

MOT exempt, Tax exempt.

Petrol 2286cc.

Emily, as she has been known, came to us from Claire, in Watford. She had had her for 11 years, and had known her from new……she has only had four former keepers, and Claire told us a long story of her history, having lived on a farm, then having belonged to the farmer’s daughter, and then her brother etc etc, until she acquired her in 1993. Claire was absolutely certain that the indicated 54,710 miles was genuine. We don’t normally like to quote mileages of these vehicles, as, if you are in the know, many of them have had broken speedometers for years (not required for MOT, and an Achilles heel on these old girls), or they have been round the clock several times (these old petrol engines are capable of very high high mileages). Anyway, Emily is almost certainly correct……her old MOT’s show very low use in recent years, her clock and speedo are lovely and smooth, and then there’s the drive – Emily is so tractable, you can actually wrongly select third gear from rest and she will still go! Her engine pulls so well, and is as sweet as a nut….her gearbox is perfect, her steering light, and even her non-servo brakes stop her with confidence. She’s nice and original too, having her original heater, still fan controlled on the variable speed knob under the dash – twin individual wipers too. Her dash is unmolested and even the dash lights and fuel gauge work (not always the case!).

On the inside, Emily has been treated to new seats in the front, and also benefits from a deluxe front mat set, so she is clean and tidy when driving. The rear has a rubber load mat, and  there is a tow bar with electrics. Up front, Emily looks very sweet, with lamp guards, period badges and all the correct look in terms of front valance, lights and grill etc. Emily also sports a brand new canvas.

In summary, Emily is a delightful, low mileage, original Series 2, exempt from both tax and MOT which is especially useful if she is being used infrequently or at a holiday home as they don’t constantly need renewing despite low annual mileages. Coupled with low insurance, she should be able to be run on a very strict budget.

Land Rover® 90 *G4 Challenge* *Galvanised chassis*

Category : Latest Land Rovers® For Sale

For sale, Land Rover® 90 in G4 Orange (1991)

Long MOT and taxed until June 2014. This stunning vehicle has been recently rebuilt onto a new  galvanised chassis. It sports the reliable 200tdi engine, and is fitted with power steering for better driving comfort. As can be seen in the photos, it has smart chequer plate wing tops, chequer plate sills to match, G4 stickers, front lamp guards, and big wheels and tyres….. even the spare matches. All this gives a pleasing style and stance to it.

Out on the road, this vehicle pulls and drives very well, as you’d imagine. In fact we drove this vehicle in from the Mildlands and it didn’t miss a beat.

This vehicle is one for someone who wants to keep it a long time – the galvanised chassis will last a very long time, and with the simple yet reliable mechanics, and no computers or electric windows there’s not a lot to go wrong. The off road tyres should give excellent off road performance, should that be your thing.

We really like this beast, and hope you do too!

Land Rover® Series 3 -*Power Steering & Galvanised Chassis*

Category : Latest Land Rovers® For Sale

For Sale, Land Rover® Series 3 Station Wagon in Masai Red (1983)

Petrol 2286cc.

12 months MOT will be supplied, and taxed until July 2014. This is a genuine Station Wagon, fitted with all the fineries that they come with….tropical roof with vents, headliner, deluxe interior trim with door cards, deluxe carpeting, techno seats and rear carpet etc etc.

This smart Station Wagon was purchased from Huddersfield Land rover Centre in 1993, and subsequently rebuilt in 1996 for the purchaser, Mr Smith - the work was carried out by Warwick  4X4. The work involved a recon gearbox (the current one stuck in third), a new galvanised chassis, new brake pipes, refurbished front and rear axles, swivels refurbished, new brake drums, flexis, slave cylinder, new fuel tank, sender, replacement of both foot wells, new exhaust manifold and gasket etc etc.

In addition to this professional and documented rebuild in 1996 there are also some very interesting extras fitted. It has a complete “Lasalle” dashboard, which offers superior switching to electrical ancillaries – the switches, as photos show, illuminate when in use – they all have a task and it’s nice to see that they operate in such a robust fashion.  There has also been a very cleverly fitted power steering kit, which transforms the drive – even your grandma could drive it (no sexism or ageism intended). Under the bonnet the upgrades continue – an SU carburettor and manifold has been fitted to improve both fuel economy and performance over standard, and this translates to a good turn of speed and lots of torque.

On the outside, the Land Rover® sports Free Wheeling Hubs, for further improved economy over standard, a smart rear tow bar (galvanised and height adjustable) with electrics, a rear galvanised step, front towing eyes, front tow bar (great for moving trailers and caravans into difficult spots, chequer plate wing tops and sills, front roof visor, front and rear lamp guards, and rear mounted spare. This truck really is loaded with extras, and looks great for it.

This is a very interesting Series 3 – useable with the Station Wagon configuration, more economical with uprated carb and free wheeling hubs, desirable with galvanised chassis, uprated dash and power steering, and overall a nice, genuine thing.

A rare and smart Land Rover.

Land Rover® 90 V8 “Ragtop” with LPG System

Category : Latest Land Rovers® For Sale

For sale, Land Rover® 90 Soft top in Metallic Blue (1985)

This vehicle has been reserved, but due to the new buyer having to stay overseas it is now available once more.

MOT until October 29th 2014 and not currently taxed, although this vehicle attracts the low tax bracket attributed to series Land Rovers due to its age.

This smart 90 houses a superb Range Rover V8 unit, which sounds and pulls as you might expect (have a listen to it on the video walk around). It is also fitted with an LPG system which works very well. In fact, it actually (as they often do) runs smoother on LPG than it does on petrol! It has just been set up and inspected by Autogas 2000, and has had fancy new direct gas injectors fitted to the carbs, which is an upgrade to the original system which was poorly designed. In short, it feeds the gas directly into each carb, giving good running and improved starting…it is set up to start and run on gas, meaning there is no need for petrol at any point.

This unique looking 90 has an excellent chassis and bulkhead, and is fitted with a desirable soft top and integral roll cage, to keep you safe in the event of a roll over.

Other features include an A bar with superb twin spots (working), snorkel, chequer plate wing tops, heavy duty sills, diff guard, twin front seats with cubby box, alloy gear knob etc etc.. It also has working fog and reversing lights, not normally either fitted or working on such an early defender.

Out on the road the whole vehicle feels and runs really well……great power for modern running, progressive brakes, and a five speed box for cruising…..for such an early vehicle this really could be used on a daily basis. It sounds awesome, and that v8 cannot help but put a smile on your face – and coupled with the LPG it is no where near as expensive as it SOUNDS to run!

This is a good, solid 90, which attracts classic insurance, low road fund, and will return good fuel consumption with the LPG. (we’d expect it to do 18/20 on petrol and 35 ish on LPG). In other words it should be much cheaper to run than a more modern vehicle of the same spec. The rag top also  makes it an enjoyable ,cool, year round runabout, and with that awesome V8 engine….!
